The Devonport Under 16s celebrate their premiership after defeating Ulverstone in Sunday's grand final.

The next generation of Orions have added another trophy to clubrooms after the club's Under 16 boys team scored a dominant win over Ulverstone in Sunday's grand final.

Having not taken out the title in the top level of junior cricket since 2017-2018, the Ian Davies-coached team made sure they did it in style, defeating the Black Caps by 8 wickets at the Devonport Oval.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Orions attack made early inroads into the Ulverstone batting line-up, reducing them to 6-36 before wrapping up the innings with the score on 90 in the 40th over.

All six bowlers used by captain Jade Doherty claimed a wicket, led by 3-21 from Lochie Reid and 2-14 from Joshua Collins.

Reid then led the successful run-chase, top-scoring with an unbeaten 41, with Judd Broomhall finishing on 22 not out as the home team reached the target in the 24th over for the loss of only two wickets.

Reid was named player of the game for his superb game with bat and ball.

The full scorecard for the game can be found here.
